Our program coordinator is trained and certified in Winter Outdoor Emergency Care, first aid and CPR. She obtained a B.A. in Biology from Western Carolina University, with an emphasis on botany of the Southern Appalachian Region. |
The Nature Program at Sapphire Valley Resort offers a variety of outdoor activities . . . . designed to facilitate fun and learning through the outdoors. Seasonal excursions include: area hikes, waterfall tours, canoeing, mountain biking, family tubing, yoga classes, and whitewater rafting trips. With the coming of the new Community Center, Sapphire Valley will house a small Nature Center where the guest may experience the Southern Appalachian Region in all its diversity. . Canoeing . FAMILY TUBING: Experience an early morning hike to the top of beautiful Bald Rock mountain. This hike is 3.5 miles roundtrip and is strenuous at a quick pace. The trip leaves at 8:30 a.m. and will return by 11:00 a.m., please sign up at the Recreation Center. The cost is $3.00 per person and will include orange juice and snacks. Trip is limited to 15 participants. Trip will leave from the Fairfield Lake Boat Dock. (Thursday, April-November) |

French Broad River Canoe Trip: Come and take in the scenic beauty of the headwatwers of the French Broad River. This class one river is perfect for beginning boaters and families.. This trip leaves the Recreation Center at 11:00 a.m. and will return by 4:30 p.m. Please bring snacks, sunscreen, adaquate water, and a change of clothes; lunch will be provided. There is a mandatory free canoe clinic at Fairfield Lake Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The cost of the trip is $30.00 per person and the trip is limited to 10 people. Pisgah Waterfalls: Enjoy a chauffered tour to some of the remote areas of our national forest. Explore various waterfalls and hiking trails with an experienced guide. Lunch will be provided.
